The most exotic art pen of 2022 is here., Bijo-To-Yaju draws on Japanese art to tell one of the greatest love stories in Europe.
Crafted from vermeil and acrylic, Bijo-To-Yaju is a work of art that bends many of the accepted conventions for pen design.
Its vertical orientation, snap-on cap and lockable and keyed appendages provide an extraordinary form factor.
Meanwhile, the graphic embellishments reproduce fragments of 18th-century Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, joined by hand-painted Kintsugi details in gold enameled relief.
However, its pièce de résistance is a sculpted pinnacle and a base modeled on the head and rump of the Shishi. Created using lost-wax casting, the figure of the eastern lion is an analogy for the protagonist of Beauty and the Beast. Part pen, part fairy tale: the concept of Bijo-To-Yaju fuses Japanese art with European storytelling, drawing attention to the universal principles of heroism, beauty and love.
The fountain pens are piston-fed and equipped with an 8 mm 18Kt gold nib (F) - custom engraved with the floral motif present at the base of the cap.
Inspired by Jean Cocteau's 1946 film, this unique edition draws attention to the universal themes of heroism, beauty and love.
The chapters of the famous fairy tale have been revisited using fragments of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints and joined by gold enamel to emulate the Japanese technique Kintsugi ("repair with gold").
Bijo-To-Yaju is made in editions of 222 fountain pens - lucky numbers according to Japanese culture - are accompanied by a bespoke display base and and is supplied in a custom co-signed wooden case inspired by the tiered roofs of a Japanese castle.
